Excursion, Wonders of Art
Excursion in Otranto, the door to the east. It is the town most east of Italy and represents a point of union of the different cultures of the Mediterranean. We meet at Otranto Harbor Parking with our guide and start our journey.
We will visit the ancient village of Otranto with its majestic Aragonese Castle built between 1485 and 1498 by Alfonso d'Aragona. We then go to the beautiful Byzantine church of St. Peter with its Byzantine art frescoes and the ancient Romanesque cathedral guarding the bones of the martyrs, famous for the enigmatic medieval mosaic describing the stories of the Old Testament and the classical mythology. Also in the cathedral, we will admire the Crypt in the hall whose columns, different from each other, come from various points of the ancient world. Leisure for shopping in the characteristic little shops of the ancient village.
